Early Career and Contoversies

Lee Hyori, (Korean: 이효리, born May 10, 1979) debuted as a member of the South Korean girl group Fin.K.L in 1998. In 2003, shortly after the group disbanded, Lee released her debut solo album Stylish and already had immense success. However, due to suspicions of plagiarism, her success was quickly overshadowed with questions of authenticity.

Despite the controversies, Lee managed to make her mark in the Korean music industry and released two other top-selling albums in 2003, Dark Angel and Shine. This video is one of her most popular singles from her album Shine.

Lee’s career really took off when in 2008, Lee released her fourth studio album titled H-Logic, which completely modified her image by adding a sexier vibe and no-holds-barred approach which gained her immense popularity and fame. With the singles ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ and ‘Bring It Back’, Lee successfully created her iconic status in the K-Pop industry.

Lee has released five solo albums so far, the most recent being Black, which was sometime in 2017. She also ventured out as a radio DJ as well as with acting, appearing as the lead cast in couple of sitcoms and movies. Check out her Wikipedia page for a complete list of her discography.

Legacy

Lee announced her retirement in 2013 but is still considered as one of the most influential and talented singers in South Korea’s music industry. She is a multi-award winning singer-songwriter and a animal rights activist. She balanced between serious social issues which she addressed though her songs in H-Logic with her light-hearted and cheerful performances, still loved and remembered by her large fan base.

To this day, Lee Hyori is remembered and respected as one of the greatest female singers of the South Koreans Music industry. This video is of her iconic performance at the 2013 MAMAs.
